Event Organiser

The people who showed up in last week's meet up gave the event i created 5 star ratings! Yay!

I was surprised to receive an email from the Melbourne Indoor Meet Up Group's Official Organiser saying that he made me an Event Organiser!!! =)

Immediately told my parents (who didnt respond, they probably dont know what to say) and told a few friends.

Few days later a friend asked so how's Meet Up going? I proudly said i'm now Event Organiser! Friend asked if i get paid to do it. I said no and he said "So its fulfilment". That is exactly it =) I do some other volunteer work and it just doesnt feel the same

Spent Thursday night making this 'sign board' for the second Friday Rock Climbing Meet Up and emailing everyone a picture of it with a short note. Also told them i was gonna wear bright blue track pants. Hahah, most people didnt see the box but they found me anyway. Must be the pants! Heheh.

In summary, it was awesome! As stated on my Facebook "Never knew i would have a passion for being Event Organiser! Fulfilling =) The Egyptian Aussie and i started off first and then the Belarus girl joined us and also the guy from Bosnia who grew up here. When they left i hung out with the Canadian and the British =) I love Melbourne"

Had a super busy weekend too! Exactly the way i love it!

Hard Rock Nunawading

Me!

You drive me up the wall =P

My climbing buddy LF doing her thing, while the girl in purple yours truly belays her
Belaying is the safety thing

We saw this low wall area and thought it was for kids

But if you actually read it, it says
"Strictly 15 years and over!"

We didnt know what to do until this Asian chick came over and said the green one is an easy one to start with, she even showed us how. She was awesome!

Me attempting to imitate her

She gets past this but i dont.

I fall

And i laugh it off

LF's boyfriend does much better than the girls, he gets up one stone higher than us

Fit LF in pink, she's definitely better than me at this!

Watched other climbers a bit

Thats the Asian girl who gave us a tutorial, and her boyfriend/husband/friend?
Watching over her protectively, coaching, guiding her.
Delicious, i want someone to love me like that!!!!
And i want someone to photograph us like that!

J on the left and me on the right.

That's the Nunawading 'gym' as they call it

The X marks the top i reached =)

Read signs that said the gym in Nunawading had Friday night specials, after 5pm it is only $12 for entry instead of the normal $18. Nunawading is just a stone's throw away from my work place while the city is a good 30km from work and it's also 30km from city to home (think of a triangle).

It takes me one and a half hours to get to the city from work (think peak hour traffic to the train station and then a train ride in to the city). I really love my climbing buddy LF but rationally it makes little sense for me to travel all the way to the city on a Friday night AND pay normal price entry to the gym in the city right?
LF works in the city.

So what do u you? Use MeetUp.com
They should pay me for blogging about them all the time!

Had my third climb tonight with a group i met off the net!!
Papa, dont worry, i came back alive!
And i was the organiser of this one!

I accidentally became the organiser of my second Meet Up! How? I noted that there lacked Meet Ups in Nunawading, always effing far far away in the city, so i stood up and took the spot. Came naturally, had this instinct to make sure everyone who RSVP yes met up

Stressful! I had to carry my phone around and received a text when i was 15meters up! And i had to go through the briefing three times with each late comer in one night!!!!

But very fulfilling. Happy!
Totally forgot about the shocking week i had at work

Found out from the German girl that these low rocks are called bouldering! =)

Aging

I think i'm like wine. So far, i get better as i get older.

Once upon a time I used to be hiding in my best friend's shadow. Always the quiet girl in school.

I feel that i grew a lot after i turned 18. Confidence. Independence. Knowledge. Courage. Assertiveness. Strength.

Outfit of the day + white bubble jacket with fur trim. No make up, was running late and left my phone at home! And i  had one of the best days =)

Proud that i can attend a party and have loads of fun. Once upon a time i wasn't able to do that. Believe me. I've come a long long way! I mingled, i was never good at it in the past. I danced, another thing i can never do outside a classroom =)

Also proud that i am able to convey a message to a close friend in a calm and steady tone, to get the message across without accusing. Chose the right words. I felt that what happened was wrong, i had to say it, no one was saying it, i couldnt keep it in and dont ask me how but once again, i surprised myself, i did it a nice way!

Meet Up

The very first friend i made in university now lives in Hong Kong, when she came to visit me (on work travel), she told me about this site called Meet Up, a website for people with common interest to meet up in big groups. Went for my first Meet Up today with Melbourne Young Professionals!

1000 Steps in Dandenong Ranges. I've been there before, its a hike up lots of stairs and then down a path. The first time i took a dozen breaks! This time i'm much better with just a couple of short stops! =)

Felt pretty much like my backpacking days, where u make 5 minute friends. Just chit chat small talk and then bye! Got along really well with a girl from Alaska who just moved here 2 months ago =)

My favourite moment was having coffee with some of them, the Alaska girl made a reference to the Energizer Bunny, an old advertisement and she was worried that we have never heard of it. Everyone knew it, the true Aussie girl, the Malaysian turned Australian Permanent resident me, the British guy and the Alaska girl's Spanish boyfriend!

Reminds me of that day backpacking in Vietnam two years ago, where i had breakfast with a Swedish medical couple... lunch with them again and a couple of French guys... dinner with a group of Australian retirees.... and supper with a group of Italians!
